as a child grew up in south suburban chicago, the local karneval sold every summer these round, flat, deep-fried cinnamons of pure joy called elephant ears (so because they looked just like small elephant ears) and I was looking forward to them every year. it was 17 years ago, since we moved to west, and before that it was probably 20 years, (37 years in total) since I had one. a few years after gristmill has moved into the load, they have decided to dive for one of their fantastic breakfast burritos I heard about (and they live to the hype.) while waiting for the tasty delicious, I ransacked their glass cases with chewed joys when I saw them! could it be holy S**t! they were elef! I almost broke in drinking the joy! I bought a couple of what they call cinnamon wars, and I was immediately transported to my childhood in the middle west. they are exactly the same (a little smaller, but just as wonderful!) next time they are there, buy a (and a delicious breakfast burrito) and taste pure joy!
today for the first time. order a reub and all sandwiches were really expensive 10) I got what like half a sandwich for a child teeny tiny and didn't even taste so good! when they calculate $10 for a sandwich, they make them at least bigger. the personal seemed to be challenged to make 2 sandwiches, it was not busy at all. do not go back to be demolished again.
Great little bakery/deli/breakfast spot! I Had an amazing bacon and egg croissant and the hubby had bacon and sausage breakfast burrito. Lots of people came in to order cakes, cookies and pies made to order. It was early but people were getting fresh made deli sandwich’s too. Def coming back!
Love their food, love the service and most of all, love everyone behind the counter. Trully service with a smile ??
