My wife and I have lived in the pueblo for over 2 years, and never tried the pizza at El Porton. Last night was our first, and I'm delighted to say that El Porton was a pleasant surprise. El Porton is a bohemian style hang out that specializes in pizza, lasagna, coffees, juice and liquor. It is reminiscent of the early 60s style coffee houses... but with a much livelier clientele. Less than a block away from the town square, San Antonio Park, this cafe and pizzeria is conveniently located for both denizens and tourists alike. El Porton does not open until later in the day, so it caters primarily to an evening crowd. The furnishings are rough-hewn and rustic... and virtually every table has some sort of wooden board game. It's a nice place to hang out... and there is plenty of seating and staff to handle a small crowd. Overall, El Porton has a warm and friendly atmosphere.When we first entered, I spotted an open-hearth wood fire in the center of the dining area. Initially, I thought I would be enjoying wood-fired brick oven pizza. Alas, the fire is only there for warmth... and atmosphere. Nevertheless, the electric-oven pizza was tasty and crisp... above average relative to typical Colombian pizza. We ordered a medium-sized Mixed meat and vegetable pizza...which was more than sufficient. Although we did not take anything home in a doggy bag, my wife and I left El Porton feeling stuffed. Dinner for two... including drinks and tip set us back 36,000 pesos (or $12 US). Not a bad deal at all... and an outstanding value for the money! El Porton is on my list of favorite restaurants in San Antonio...
The pizza is decent, not great, in an area of lots of pizza restaurants. But what is great is the atmosphere. It's sort of a funky 70's coffeehouse type of feel, Colombian style. You can sit and play board table games, drink some wine, watch the fire, and laugh with friends while you wait for the pizza. It is unique, friendly and very local.
El lugar es agradable, la pizza es deliciosa y en realidad economica, el servicio es un poco demorado, pero en realidad es un sitio que vale la pena conocer y es para volver.
El ambiente agradable, con muy buen servicio y la pizza es deliciosa. No es muy costoso, vale la pena la visita.
