My wife and I were in Ronda Spain this summer (August 2022) and had a most pleasant dining experience at the El Campillo, in the Plaza Maria Auxiliadora, one evening. The restaurant resides in the old town which is quite charming. The outdoor seating area was large, and the vibrancy of the small plaza was enhanced further still by a most skilled guitar player that frequents the plaza daily/nightly. The only thing I can say is a detraction to the experience is a couple of dumpsters across the street against a wall. But such is the quirkiness of old towns with narrow streets. Overall, our experience was near ideal. If you have travelled to Spain from another country as we did, you will know what I am talking about when I mention that the Spanish menu at all tourist locations is usually very limited. There seems to be about a dozen common dishes available at restaurants, and half of those are seafood related. And this at perhaps each business along an entire street, even for restaurants and cafes that are right beside each other. It is hard to find a place that offers a pizza, or a pasta dish, or even a plain old hamburger. Luckily for me the El Campillo had spaghetti Bolognese, so such an appreciated respite! The wine was great too of course! I do recommend the El Campillo for a great evening experience. And thanks to our waiter Toribio for his service at our table.
El Campillo has wonderful views, wonderful food and above all wonderful service ! Thank you so much to Tori and his team for his friendly welcome and excellent recommendations especially the best local wines to go with any dish ! Definitely worth booking a table near the square an hour before the sun sets. Sunlight on cobblestones, gentle piano drifting from the music school and clinking a glass of cava or two … a wonderful farewell to Ronda. And next time we visit El Campillo will be top of our list
We arrived early evening 8:30 as we were strolling the area. We enjoyed salads and entrees that were excellent, the waiter was very knowledgeable and provided great suggestions. We had just finished a week of touring through Andalucía and enjoy excellent meals. This was by far one of the best meals. It is a must go to spot.
Nice ambience location however people hovering over tables waiting for you to finish Food was average and expensive did not get my parmesan cheese to go with spaghetti Bolognese Had a bottle of house wine but at a cost if 25 Euros A few people were questioning their bill for things they had not ordered Will not return ...
