Last Saturday morning for a breakfast buffet with my husband and son. It was my first time in the diner. I never had gone before because I had always heard terrible things from the PREVIOUS owners screaming in the restaurant and making a terrible experience there. Let me just say that Downtown Diner is now the place where my family will go to breakfast right now! We don't usually go to breakfast because there's no value in Mattoon. Everything was fresh, hot and delicious! From the fluffy eggs and crisp bacon over the hash and fried maize flour, everything was perfect. SUMMARY OF selection (each French toast! Our server was enthusiastic about how the kitchen staff filled the buffet. Don't wait until you decide for dinner! Before, I'm sure we'll eat lunch again! PS we got some cookies on our way. Yum! Welcome to the neighborhood Hubbarts!
I was raised to the south most of my life, so when I came to Mattoon to visit my husband family... the diner is a must! Love her wraps (especially the Cheeseburger Wrap, love her country fries steak dinner and the salad bar is amazing! On weekends they have a full-buffed bar (which I usually am not a fan of buffets, but here is the only place I am happy to go to breakfast on weekends: . Whenever you need a good ol' comfort food....downtown Diner is definitely the place to go and eat! Thank you guys for always serving is hot, fresh and delicious!
Absolutely Awesome! Homemade soups, Fresh Salad bar with soups and desserts for $6.99! Best food and service at very reasonable prices.
Great original eatery right downtown. Home cooked food where the locals dine. Well worth pulling off of I55!
