Ok, so I am biased. Soest is my hometown and I ate at this restaurant a lot when I was a child. But then I moved abroad and it wasn't until last year that I returned to the Moenchshof for a family meal. I loved...it! The place serves traditional fare with a Balkan twist and is full of atmosphere. The house was actually the birthplace of renowned painter Otto Modersohn husband of Paula of the Worpswede school and there are paintings and bits of information, especially in the Modersohn corner to the right of the main entrance. The people who run this restaurant are so nice and so charming, it is a delight! I had the pork medallions and they were beautifully done. If you like meat, you will really enjoy this place but they do cater to all tastes and are very helpful in suggestion options. When you are in Soest, give it a go you won't be disappointed

We stopped for lunch on our first day in Soest. We speak no German but the wait staff was so friendly and helpful. They do have an English menu available but I asked the waiter to choose a meal he would like. He selected a...meat filled with cheese, rice, fries and a catsup. It was phenomenal. They have great beers as well. It was crowded with locals which, to me, speaks to how great it is. The atmosphere is old world German. The menu is reasonably priced. The staff is great. It is located conveniently in the town center. They do have outdoor dining. If you're in Soest you should stop in for lunch or dinner

We were staying in Soest for the Christmas Market but instead of feasting on Bratwurst we wanted a sit down meal. Staying in the hotel opposite we popped in to check reservation availability on route to the market on a Friday night and managed to...get a reservation. What a treat the food was fantastic, best meal we had in Germany over our day stay. One of the our party is vegetarian a concept that German restaurants seem to struggle with but Der Moenchshof served up a cracking vegetarian option

We found this place on our way to visit the city. Among other choices we decided to go for this and it was indeed a very good one. The place is lovely and well decorated. It looks like you're having lunch or dinner in your...grandma's house. The service was almost perfect and the food was good with a delicious soup and even more delicious main courses. For lunch you can also have a cheap menu for something more than ten euros per person. We would definitely come back again!
