Visited for a standard roast lunch on a Sunday, one of us having beef and the other pork; one having a duck-leg samosa starter and the other a New York cheesecake desert (so hopefully a fair representation). Overall quality excellent (albeit beef preferred to the...pork); tables well spaced and service from a couple of young lads very good. Some contributors have bemoaned the lack of a warm welcome which is true as the proprietor is, shall we say, very reserved but if you don't take it personally you'll still enjoy your meal here! Reservations a good idea and I liked the fact that the table reservation signs showed the name in which the booking had been made.
Not having been for a while we ended up visiting three times within a matter of weeks, the first two occasions with family and friends and then in a party of a dozen or so relative strangers. The good thing about the C&H is that it's very reliable. There's always plenty of choice and the already extensive menu is augmented by a frequently changing specials' board. Focusing on the group meal it was impressive to see such a diverse range of meals brought out at once, to the same high standard, as none of the food had been preordered. Service was excellent polite, courteous, helpful and timely. I think that's all to be said!
Really nice Sunday lunch with decent portion sizes and just all round good food. The pub was warm and cozy pub, with very friendly and helpful staff (despite being pretty busy)…just what was needed after a walk with friends
This place never fails..... the WING COMMANDER is always praising it when passes thro its always BOOK COACH HORSES The Food sublime , good portions great service..... made for us to relax
