Cannot recommend this pub highly enough. Not only is the food exceptional and the ale is great; They manage to create an atmosphere that is both very much a real, heart of the community pub for locals, whilst welcoming guests and passers by. We have young kids and they are always made so welcome. Last night in addition to the fabulous provision of good kiddie meals/cutlery/etc, the kids were even given a busy box to play with whilst we enjoyed our lovely time there. It had puzzles, games, colouring. They were so happy. If you are looking for a sunny drink in the garden, it’s a gorgeous spot. Or a place to go for a roast with your Gran, we’ve never been disappointed. Maybe it’s rainy on Dartmoor….we’ve played many a board game by the fire. The food is always of a very high standard and the menu is ever changing so it’s also perfect for a classy date night. You might wonder why I write such a gushy review. It’s because this pub is really special. It’s the heart of our community and people visiting it will keep it alive, fantastic and thriving for years to come. I tell all my friends about it…so I thought I’d tell the strangers on the internet too.

Immediate friendly welcome. Traditional country pub with an additional airy light filled oak framed dining room extension. Choice of either, so chose the dining room. Drinks arrived quickly and a little longer a wait for mains and dessert. Popular and busy at lunchtime so probably the reason, however, so worth it. Food was delicious. Portion sizes adequate however if you like more mashed potatoes or chips/ roast potatoes possibly be wise to order additional sides. More than adequate for lunchtime, especially as we couldn’t resist dessert! The lunch menu advertised on their website isn’t the current one but from the month of May. In fact we preferred what was on today’s menu!! 2 courses mains and desserts 2 drinks cost £58. Would certainly return when next in the area and would recommend. Well done to the whole team!

We were lucky enough to be able to hold our wedding reception for 125 guests at the Church House Inn The run up to the big day was so well organised , well supported being above and beyond the normal remit of a team and very relaxed which helped me enjoy the day . The whole day ran like clockwork with all team mixing into the guests without intruding . The food was outstanding and exceptional. The weather was awful but again Will went out of his way to ensure that we were well covered by erecting “sails” and cover to keep us all dry. The Chef and kitchen team kept all the guests well filled with delicious canapés and food . The front of house team kept everyone topped up without any hesitation , very attentive . Fabulous team and a massive thank you to Will, Sarah and all the team of the CHI

We sat in the ‘old’ part of the pub which is traditional but extremely well kept. I was very pleased with my food. A lovely starter of mushroom rarebit and a delicious main of duck breast which was perfectly cooked. The only disappointment was one of the party, who had asked for steak and ale pie, was instead brought a chicken and mushroom pie. However, still a pub I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone passing by.
