Service is friendly, the wines by the glass or liter are respectable, and the menu options (versus a la carte) weren't bad. The atmosphere is ok. The main room doesn't have a lot going for it in the atmosphere department and the tables seem a little cramped. Lots of traditional, local dishes available. Everything was solid, but nothing was exceptional. The salmon w/ horseradish and toast was fine, the palate cleanser was quite good, and the scallops on a sort of pasta were decent. Desserts all seemed good, and my sorbet w/ a shot of brandy on top was excellent. I thought the prices were slightly high for what I got, but all in all it is a solid place and I would return.

We ate in the restaurant while staying the hotel. The menu choice is not enormous (probably a good thing) but there was a reasonable range of options. Service was friendly and attentive, and timing we good. A good range of wine by carafe or by the bottle. The home made fois gras was very good, my simmental steak bigger than I really needed and my wife's turbot excellent.The cafe gourmand was a perfect finish with a nice selection of light desserts

At Chez Jean you can find the typical alsace cuisine with big portions(!), excellent vines and really tasty french beer.Its a generally upper style, the staff speaks several languages.The restaurant is popular so thats difficult to find a place without reservation.

The chef here does a great job. Presentation is good and food is delicious. We had a chicken dish that was excellent. Breads are fresh and good. Wines are reasonable. Desserts are excellent and there is variety. Alsatian foods are highlighted.

After a bad experience elsewhere in Saverne, this restaurant was extremely friendly to English guests, and the food was quite good.
