Auflauf has achieved something of a cult status in Hattingen. Its central location with plenty of outside space is a huge draw, especially in summer. In the evenings, especially at weekends, it can get very full so a reservation is essential if you want a table. Auflauf is basically a pub that happens to serve food and the atmosphere in the evenings is very jolly and ideal for an evening's drinking. Do not expect gourmet food, though. Portions are generous but the rule of the kitchen seems to be quantity over quality and food can be very much hit or miss.During the day, i.e. lunchtime, Auflauf looks a bit like a party mouse that's been up too late the night before. It's dark, dingy and feels a bit grubby. Staff are friendly, though.A number of pubs in have satellite TV for showing football and can get very crowded on particular match days. Auflauf recently cancelled their satellite subscription and is therefore one of the quieter pubs when a local team is playing.
