I booked 2 nights from July 2022. The hotel owner, a frustrated old woman, was very hostile, cold-hearted and inhospitable. When we arrived that the hotel was closed, we had to call, my father's room was not cleaned, only in the evening she gave him the key of another room. The next day she threw us out of the hotel because my children had made too much mess in the breakfast room, which was not true. She gave only 1 bun for 1 person, some orange juice, not enough yogurt for everyone when my father arrived there was nothing left. I think she was angry because we ate everything. I repeat: They threw us out, we had to find another place to stay, and we had to pay the bill in cash, not accepting cards. My father, who is used in 5 star hotels all over the world, had never experienced anything like that and was very upset. I was embarrassed because I organised the trip. At the end of July he died a few weeks later, and that was his last trip outside Belgium. I strongly recommend choosing another hotel in wolfenbüttel. Isabelle
This was a family/cousins 8 seat reunion at this olde style, well used tavern. On arrival our 8 seat table was offered as a 5 seat, but we located an 8 seater upstairs in a quiet alcove. The usual efficient, charming waitress took our drinks order while we studied the menu. When the drinks quickly appeared we ordered our luncheon the chatting really got under way. Suddenly we realised an hour had slipped away but no food had appeared. Another 20 minutes passed disquiet set in, ended by my German born wife springing up searching for our waitress. Unbelievably, our order had been overlooked/mislaid. Profuse apologies our food arrived five minutes later. Massive, wholesome, good. Sadly by this time most bonhomie had dissipated. But we made the best of it departed. A flawed gem, but well worth another visit.
This restaurants reminds us of Bavaria. The food is very much in the tradition of that area, and extremely well prepared. It was comfortable if a bit different, but it provided more of an intimate atmosphere even though you were sitting next to another group of people. If you like German food and want to taste a bit of Bavarian cooking, you have found the right place.
We were here with a large group and the food was much better than I remember it sometimes in the past. The service was a bit slow but that 's to be expected in a German restaurant when a large group is being served. Some of the dishes are not echt Bavarian but are good nonetheless.
