"Not a flash place which means it's not over run by tourists but the food is of a consistent quality and the wine is local and good value. The man who runs the restaurant can appear grumpy but once you have his attention you usually get a smile!"

I was in La Avenida about 12 years ago when a Rolls Royce pulled up outside. The driver, who was English, came in and ordered a meal. He told us he had taken the food correspondent of a top British newspaper over the hill to El Bulli, the Best Restaurant in the World . He had been advised to go back into Roses to find La Avenida. We had lunch in there today. Wonderful. It could have been a tapa selection, or the weekend menu, which you would pay twice as much for in a 'bigger ' restaurant. The house wine is very good, but Manolo would permit nothing else. Similarly, nothing comes out of Carmen 's kitchen which isn 't up to their very high standards. Food, drink, service, and every detail in the place, hasn 't varied in quality for the many years I have known it.

I had to wait for a table as all were taken by Spanish workers. On a Monday in winter where no one else appeared busy, this was amazing and I had to try. I was not disappointed. The garlic prawns were amazing and the home made tiramisu stunning. I missed out on creme catalane as they had already sold out. I went for paella and the owner explained the kitchen were to busy to create at lunchtime , but if I phoned in advance, they could present. Now that is service and genuine and I definately will be back. It is close to the beach at the top side of town by the port. Turn left at the bank and walk up the street. You will not regret.

Visited in group of 7. Waiter unfriendly when he thought we were only ordering 2 tapas menus. In fact we wanted to order 2 menus and lots of Other dishes but he started shouting that it was very small, not enough for us before we could finish. When the food came it was very mixed in quality. Seafood generally good. Meat poor. Vegetables indifferent. Strange blue lighting makes unusual decor. Wouldn’t recommend although cheap.

We visit Roses on a fairly regular basis and were delighted to find that this restaurant had a complete revamp from the previous year. This restaurant is frquented by the locals and is always busy, especialy at lunch time. An excellent selection of Tapas which are offered on a menu of the day. Gets very busy in the season so you may need to book
