Places like this used to be all over France but they are becoming rarer. I happened on it as I was looking for somewhere to have lunch and it was perfect. It was a baking hot day with temperatures of 30C. Inside the beamed and very traditional dining room was cool and comfortable with a mix of people that you would never get in GB: there were eight middle-aged men who had all been out shooting perhaps on the array of muddy quad bikes that were parked outside, there were two tables of genteel older French ladies a party French Sunday-lunchers and me. One delightful waitress, who was no chicken, looked after us all with no problem. She was brilliant. The food was good. In unadventurous mode I went for the excellent home made pate, cote d'agneau, delicious cheese and finished with creme brulee and coffee. It was perfect. I shall try to time lunch or dinner to coincide wth passing through Sainte-Seine-l'Abbaye in future.
