This is a small French restaurant with an outside terrace (too cool the day we visited). We arrived shortly before noon, were shown to a table but told that we were too early for lunch. Ordered a glass of wine. Between noon and 12:15, the restaurant filled up with what appeared to be mostly local working folk. We had a great table where we could people watch. We both ordered the daily special - roast duck quarter. Meal came with salad. The duck, vegetables, and potatoes are served family style. If I remember correctly, the price per meal was 8 Euro. Couldn't resist the dessert menu. Everything was delicious! Warning, though - the menu is in French. Fortunately, our waitress spoke some English, which was better than our broken French.

My wife and I visited Maginot line when the temperature outside was 35 degrees... We appreciated the 12 degrees underground in the magnificent and well preserved fortress of schoenenbourg. But , after the Maginot line, we appreciated also the cuisine "au cerf" . A "salade gourmand" with duck liver fried in butter, smoked salmon , a grilled shrimp , duck brest on a salad bed. Excellent! And then "chantilly meringue with ice cream : delicious.So... Visit maginot line , but stop also "au cerf" . Two interesting and remarkable experiences.

The restaurant is situated in a cute little town close to Schoenenberg. They have a great good and drink selection at a reasonable price. The service was implacable and so was the food. The staff is very friendly. Highly recommended.

Hunspach itself is well worth a visit, and if here in the evening, then I can recommend Au Cerf. My wife and I both had the kidneys as a main course, which were good. The restaurant was very popular with locals too.
