The Waldhaus is a very old hotel, with a very old clientele and ownership, as a result of which it feels a bit stiff and worn out. While the spa is new and quite impressive, the other parts of the hotel resemble more of a museum. The rooms have no airconditioning, and you may therefore find yourself being buzzed awake by a helicopter flying through the valley at 6am because you left the window open for ventilation. For elderly german-speakers, the concerts and book lectures may form an attraction, but for non-german speakers they have the effect of making you feel a little out of place. The food is excellent in the small ala carte restaurant, but very bland in the main restaurant. The breakfast room appears too small for the large numbers of guests at peak times, so it feels a little like an all-inclusive scrum rather than the quiet philosophers space you perhaps had selected the hotel for. Suggest you order the room service breakfast if you want to avoid the noise. The location is indeed spectacular, but the hiking trails are very crowded, obviously this is not the hotel’s fault, but simply to point out that if you are seeking a philisophical reflective holiday, this may not be the place.

Thank the entire Waldhaus staff for a wonderful stay! Following a long family history of visits, we are in our fourth generation staying at The Waldhaus. Memories there are some of our family's most cherished! Looking forward to returning next summer . Warmly, Susan Regan, Adele, and children Rooms: Immaculate, fresh, extremely roomy, with breathing taking views, quiet. Nearby activities: Excellent trails and bus/rail service to area sights. Walkability: Oh yes, ease of walking to shops is delightful . Food drinks: World class 5 star meals in taste and presentation.

Excellent, traditional hotel with a lot of history. We liked all the small details, they are taking care of. Excellent staff, working there for decades and a very friendly owner family. Grand Hotel at it's best! The only thing, we were not 100% happy, was the offer in the main dining room. Dishes were rather exotic and we would have loved a better variety of dishes.
