"The cost of a pint of beer was exorbitant overvalued £1 a pint more than another nearby pub. The interior was tired. A traditional pub . The service was pleasant but will not be going again at these prices At the moment offer a limited lunchtime menu.."

Very disappointed. Came for lunch here yesterday after having booked a table for six several weeks ago. Admittedly, we arrived about five/ten minutes late but were told that several items on the menu had already finished and the remaining menu had very few choices in any case. The food was OK but certainly did not have that home cooked taste. In fact, the fish and chips were quite tasteless. Also, the lady came and took our plates away without asking if we wanted any pudding. So, a little later, when we went up to the bar to order puddings we were told that the kitchen was now closed!! If we had known that was going the be the case, we would have ordered with our main courses. What a shame as the occasion was a rare get-together for a group of retired NHS staff. We will not be having a meal there in future.

The meat raffle is drawn on Sundays at 3pm. When I visited later in the day, the blackboard displaying the names and ticket numbers of the winners was displayed in the narrow gap between the top of the enormous inglenook fireplace and the ceiling. There were several winners--I think 10 or 12. The numbers of the tickets showed that a lot of tickets had been sold. A fire was burning sweetly in the grate. The glowing embers were pumping out heat, and a new log was singing on top. The ventilation could be improved. A row of Toby jugs were hanging horizontally from hooks along the beam above the fire, ignominiously displaying their bottoms. The golfing memorabilia has gone. I could cry.

Landlady was rude and regulars seemed unhappy to see a non regular face. Poor choice of beer compared to previously. Nothing compares to when I went there in 2020 and the landlady asked a man not wearing a mask as he had breathing problems “to hold his breath and not breathe over people”.
