Café Alt Magdeburg A nice little cafe inside the famous “Green Citadel” Grüne Zitadelle, the Hundertwasser designed hotel Didn’t feel like cooking today, so I thought of picking up some takeaway! The place was packed at 4.30pm. Most guests came for Coffee/Tee as well as very traditional cakes! The food menu was limited, but sufficient for a simple meal! Service was excellent, the young lady serving me, professional, courteous and accommodating For the wintertime they serve Glühwein and all the other hot libations one requires to stand the substantial sub-zero cold! Food was ok, I had 2 Königs Pasteten mit Würzfleisch, (Puff-pastry Shells with Thick Meat Sauce Stuffing) Couple of Wieners, with bread roll and side salad, (which was really nice) But the winner was the Pflaumen Streusel Kuchen, (plum cake from the tray with dough sprinkles) super nice, and exactly how I remember it from my youth The location is excellent and worth a visit! #germany #traveladventures #drivingholidays #magdeburg #amazingmagdeburg#cafemagdeburg #cafealtmagdeburg #grünezitadelle #hundertwasserhotel

The cafe itslef is nicely decorated and it could be very nice if there was 25% tables less. They try to place there as many customers as possible. Tables are so close to each other that it was almost like we were all sitting at one table. Additionally plenty of people walking here and there in order to choose the cake at the desk. My capucino was far from a good one and cake so terribly sweet that I couldn't eat it. After twenty minutes all I wanted was to leave quickly but waitresses kept on ignoring me for a long time. Visiting this cafe was an unpleasant experience and I definitelly never come again.

We enjoyed the juxtapposition of the café 's name Alt Magdeburg with the eclectic/modern Green Citadel Building by the famous Austrian architect Hundertwasser constructed in the late '50 's in which the restaurant is located. On this warm early fall day in late September, we sat outside under the umbrellas and enjoyed our simple meal of Soljanka Soup (Russian Sweet and Sour soup) with vegetables and sausage as well as the pot of pea soup. Both were simple, healthy and satisfying. Friendly service, nice ambience, unbeatable prices.

We popped in here for a cup of tea on our arrival in Magdeburg. It is a very traditional cafe restaurant with lots of old photos of the city. Service was just wonderful, very friendly and helpful and the tea was excellent too. A nice start to our visit.
