Is your mood set on east mode? tired of burger, pizza or boeuf bourguignon? then Akashiso is a very good option if you're wandering in Saintes town center; let's not indulge and see the 3 reasons service is fast food is good price is fair that's about it, no frills nothing too complicated, a good Japanese restaurant without much pretenses; I didn't like too much the place itself and they could care bit more of it but when it comes to service and food no complains; efficient and tasty and no surprises on the bill; I would recommend it. Note I don't eat fish so it's a good challenge for a Japanese restaurant, the vegetarians makis and the meat's skewers were very tasty and the Japanese beer Kirin a good plus.
Personally I am not completely convinced by eating raw fish, so when my pregnant wife sais I REALLY need sushi I thought the worst. We found one Restauant in Saintes which was not so good but we eventually found this one. My wife craves for their Makiniege (California Rolls without the seaweed) to the point she wakes up thinking about them. Their non fish option is good and I love their Gyoza. Admittedly I am not overly keen on their brochettes but they do have a novel beef and cheese brochette. Plus Excellent Service, Fresh ingredients, extremely friendly Minus limited vegitarian or non fish option (but it is sushi)
Finding a restaurant that caters for vegetarians in France is always a challenge, unless you can exist on a diet of pizza or pasta at the local Italian. Trip Advisor does not even include “Vegetarian” as an option in its list of Cuisines, in my experience “vegetarian or vegan friendly “ is no guarantee of anything other than an offer of an omelette or in France often fish! Rant over, back to Akashiso, pleasant setting, friendly efficient staff and good quality if limited (one) choice . Very well worth a visit!
Being a big fan of sushi I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this small restaurant in the middle of the Charente Maritime. I was blown away presentation was great and the fish tasted oh so fresh. If in the area it is a must do. The staff were very very friendly. All round top meal, will be visiting again.
