We had our table booked for 2pm..we waited 20 minutes to get a table. The staff were not organised at all!! They kept chatting to each other to try and pass the buck to get a table for us. We asked for 1 vegetarian tea..when it came all the sandwiches were vegetarian. I didn’t say anything as it was my friends Birthday and I didn’t want to spoil it. I would have loved some meat sandwiches. The scones were chocolate and orange..very tasteless!! The member of staff only came over once to see if everything was ok. We wanted another pot of tea..but no staff about!! All were congregated at the counter area which was not in shouting distance for attention. We waited a good 10 minutes to see if any of the staff would come over. No staff!! At the finish I had to walk over to the counter to order another pot of tea. Totally disorganised!! I would not recommend this afternoon tea to anyone. Not good at all!! I felt where we sat had a good view of the Tyne. Although you had to sit up above the bar next to us to see it. But overall I felt as if we were in a corridor..not a plush surrounding as I expected. Very disappointed overall.

What a lovely venue. The food tasted lovely and the scone tasted much better than it looked. Some of the portions were somewhat on the small side especially the cakes and scones. I would compliment the chef though because the chocolate and orange scone tasted beautiful and it was nice to have a different flavour. The ambience was nice although the service greatly needs improving. Despite the staff expecting us at the set time a table wasn’t ready for us and later we seen another couple being led to a table which hadn’t been cleaned. We waited 15minutes for someone to come and take out drinks order and had to try to get the staffs attention for more drinks. Although I think it was good value for money because of the offer on I do think much improvement is needed as there are better afternoon teas available. I would probably pay more elsewhere than return.

Enjoyed afternoon tea at the sage , table with a view of the river and quayside, someone occasionally played the piano which was lovely . Staff helpful and pleasant, food good and take out box offered without us having to request it .
