It was our first night at Eguisheim and we did not book a table and all restaurants were full. We finally found out this place. At first glance it was not that great, very old fashioned, like nothing has changed since the 50s. But the food... My wife who is an excellent cooker took a vegetable soup, the best ever according to her, and then a local fish which was perfectly cooked. I took as a starter a plate of various game hams (deer, wild boar, smoked duck) that you will certainly not find in other places and that was followed by kidneys, so good it would damm a saint! And the prices are just ridiculous!Service is a bit slow but we had the whole evening to enjoy this marvelous food.
The place is really nice and we wanted a table by the window, but the waitress told us that all the tables by the windows were booked. We had dinner and by the time we finished (we was the last table that evening ) no one used the tables by the windows. The food was quite good but next time we will stay downstairs where the owner serves herself the customers and speaks a very good English. Will be very helpful for some customers to have a few menu translated in English.
The dinner here was an excellent experience. Each of our three courses was so delicious, generous portions and very tasty. The waiter was attentive and nothing was too much trouble and he was charming without being overbearing. We sat outside and enjoyed the sounds of a stork family clattering their beaks on nearby chimney stack as dusk fell. All in all I cannot recommend it highly enough.
We ordered a three course "menu". The salad was fine, the main course of steak was not so great and the dessert was average. This place is okay in a pinch, but there is surely better options in this lovely village.
