Having read some reviews we decided to go for a meal at The Haller, not realising that the tables at the old market in Monschau are being used by several restaurants. Some looked quite similar and so we only realised half way through the meal that we had landed at The Stern Hotel. The menus didn't have any names on them, which should have caught our attention, but I guess we were so impressed by the lovely surroundings that it didn't 'click' straight away. In hindsight we thought it was a very clever strategy to benefit from the popularity of other nearby restaurants, which isn't ok at all and of course can't be proven. Food itself was mediocre and the beer flat - no reason to go back. We've learned our lesson to look more carefully where to sit on scenic market places.
It is located at the most scenic location in Monschau, during the summer they have also many tables outdoors on the main square. Menu is not very long, there are some interesting meals that are seasonal but the waiter were not even tell when the season is. He also failed to understand what exactly was ordered, meaning that one of us did get slightly different thing that was initially asked. Food quality was ok, nothing special. Dessert was disappointing - famous German Apfelstrudel was just a ordinary apple cake which was ok but not even a close what an Apfelstrudel should be.
Niet speciaal, heel basic. Ik zou meteen Zum haller aanraden, het restaurant aan de andere kant van het water :) veel beter en goede prijs-kwaliteit! Mijn vriend nam steak met kruidenboter en de kruidenboter was zeer hard, volgens mij uit de diepvries, was nog niet ontdooit.
