The House of the Pillars falling in ruin in the nineteenth century, the municipal officers asked and obtained from King Francis I in 1529 that it was replaced by a real Renaissance style palace, designed by the Italian architect Boccador[2]. Its construction began in 1533 with the first stone laid on July 15 by the patron of the merchants of Paris Pierre Violle[3]and ended in 1628. The southern part was built under François I and Henri II from 1533 to 1551, its northern part under Henri IV and Louis XIII from 1605 to 1628 (under the direction of the merchants' prevôt of Paris Robert Miron), the wars of religion having interrupted the work[4],[5]. On the occasion of this reconstruction, Charles Leconte, master carpenter of the city hotel, is the first to float a wooden work train for the needs of work on the Yonne and the Seine, a train arriving in Paris on 20 April 1547[6],[7]. On 17 June 1763, an artifice was fired at Grève in front of the town hall for the publication of Peace. [8] Detailed article: Paris City Hall under the Revolution. In the 19th century, the expansion and partial reconstruction of the city hotel was carried out according to the plans of Godde and Lesueur from 1837 to 1848, while preserving the Renaissance façade. Antoine Vivenel, a general contractor, was responsible for the project. Four painters, including Jean-Victor Schnetz, are called to celebrate the great Parisian revolutions on the walls of the ancient Temple of the Throne. This expansion destroyed the following streets and buildings[9]:
