Went here with 3 friends last night. The positives are that it's a great addition to Prospect Rd and the place has been decorated in a lovely way so as to make you feel like you're in a quirky friend's home. Lovely touches everywhere you look. Gorgeous outside area for when it's warm. My friends and I went for a light dinner, a few glasses of wine and to enjoy the live music. The music was ok, and quite appropriate for the mostly 40yo+ set that frequented that night. But they were so loud in the main room, that we moved to the courtyard where we could talk and still enjoy the music. Choice of wines was great. The major downfall of this place is the food. My friend had been there twice before with girlfriends of hers, and said each time, they were out of several menu items. This time she hoped things were better. It wasn't. Most of the menu choices were out of stock because "we had a busy day yesterday and have run out". Excuse me? Markets are open during the day, and any good chef would stock up. The four of us were told everything we ordered was "not available". I subsequently asked for the beef and Guinness pie which arrived with its top totally black and burnt. I was too hungry to complain. We then thought we'd cheer ourselves up by ordering desserts but 2 of the 3 menu desserts were unavailable too! Totally dismayed we opted for the icecream sundae (the only dessert they had) which was thrown in a bowl with absolutely no care. Wassail has a lovely ambience and is ideal for wine, music and catching up with friends. Just go elsewhere for food. There are many more eateries on Prospect Rd that know how to provide food to their guests.
