We were invited to join friends here to celebrate a birthday at the weekend. The food was exquisite - they specialise in using wild herbs and foraged foods (a la mode in Germany at the moment) and everything is presented to a very high standard.Good French cuisine with some German influences. I enjoyed the Menu d'Ete - a guinea fowl terrine starter followed by venison confit for main course and wild strawberries torte for dessert - for 35 Euros. The herb bread roll was baked and presented on a hot stone and served with wild herb pesto. Selection of three little amuse bouche were delicious, as was the pre-dessert of mocha jelly topped with wild strawberry mousse. My husband enjoyed the 44 Euro vegetarian menu with a warm salad with roasted veg, courgette soup with poached egg, tagliatelle with chanterelles mushrooms and various sorbets to finish.Additionally our two children were welcomed (there is a children's menu so whilst my older daughter had the same menu as I did but with Normandy cheeses instead of dessert the younger had the tomato starter from a la carte menu then the steak and home made pasta from the children's menu). Kids are also encouraged to go into the kitchen to see the chef prepare the kid's menu dessert. They also had a children's non-alcoholic cocktail to enjoy. The wine list of open wines (for single glasses or mini carafe) is extensive which meant everyone could choose their preferred accompaniment to the meal. The restaurant is light, airy and beautifully decorated with photos and coloured fabric banners - with stones and wild flowers decorating the table.Service was friendly and knowledgeable - there is great attention to detail both on and off the plate. As it was a birthday we were presented with a selection of home-made petit fours including rosemary flavoured chocolate truffles and macaroons.Vieux Sinzig is a real treasure and well worth a trip or detour if you are visiting Koln, Bonn or the Rhine Valley. We'll definitely go back on another visit.

We were on a Saturday evening , were warmly received and ordered the Menu d'automne. This is a 3 course menu at the very reasonable price of 35€. Considering also that we were offered some amuse bouche and a tasting pre-dessert as a courtesy, the price is not to be beaten thinking of the good ingredients and careful preparation. With the name of "Old Sinzig" one expects a decor more in the traditional style of an old Gasthaus, but the restaurant is decorated simple with modern paintings, giving its own flair and personality.Being Saturday evening, the restaurant was full and the tables were slowly served, probably the kitchen was overloaded and we, like the other customers, had long waiting periods between dishes. We arrived at 6pm and left 3 hours later. I personally think the correct timing plays a part in a successful meal. The wines were fine with the exception of a Corbiere that had a lot of deposits and in the taste it seemed to have turned. We informed the Sommelier staff but were told that it was an unfiltered bio wine, which to me it was an insult to the bio wine producers. In short I think the food and the friendliness makes it worth to visit again, but I would avoid a Saturday evening, ideally middays should be much more relaxed and timed experience.

This was a designation restaurant for me. Chef Jean-Marie Dumaine is brilliant. I knew of his liquor infusions from other bar tenders in Germany. We arrived for an early seating. The dining room is simple, beautifully lit and relaxing. Chef Dumaine's is very active in the dining room and a joy to talk with. Many of the herb and heirloom vegetables were from the restaurants garden. The truffles were along hunted by the chef and his certified truffle hunting dog. We lingered late into the evening enjoying the meal and talking with the chef. And stocked up on all kinds of gourmet goodies at their store.

The restaurant is located in the city center of Sinzig. Parking is possible without problem. The interior is decorated a little too functional and lacks a little of warmth. The food is very good. In relation to the price it is awesome. The three course menu is cool. The five course one is great! We celebrated the birthday of my brother and we got a nice birthday dessert on top of it. The people are nice. The bosses worth a visit.
