The Carrington has been many things over time but for now it has settled again as a local pub. It's a little more on the quiet side than years gone by but there is still something happening most nights of the week and with a strong local clientele it has settled into a new and relaxing time. This is one of Sydneys oldest pubs opening in 1877. It has been extensively renovated but it still has a great feel with the original parquetry wooden floors. It's subdued lighting and extra friendly bar staff make this a great place to hang out. As well as a great selection of beer they offer cocktails and have a great wine list. Just to note they offer $10 late night cocktails. Sit outside or in the bar area on leafy Bourke street. It's a great pub for watching sport or getting into a spirited pub trivia night. The food is a very big drawcard. Sundays bring a different roast each week. Mondays offer pasta specials and every other night of the week there are house made meals. Platters and snacks are a real bargain here. get one of the 4 to share for a mere $25.00. Steaks are a speciality with a rotating $15 steak or burger special. There's plenty here besides steaks though and it all looks very very nice. You can also bring your four legged friend too as this pub is dog friendly. Yes. bring you dog and there is even a menu for pooches too.

Renamed The Carrington this is one of the increasing number of pubs that do not have pokies. Went on a Surry Hills walking tour yesterday and this was one of the stops. Manger gave a chat as did tour guide regarding history of hotel etc. A good range of beers wines etc. had two schooners and a local Shiraz. Did ask about the Spanish red on the list however the barman didn't know anything about it - and didn't offer a taste either which might have had me buy a glass my view if you can't tell people about the wine then give them a taste. Part of the tour was the hotel provided some plates a good mix not bad with the baked Camembert the highlight. Bar menu looks good prices reasonable. Fitout etc quite. A few options for seating main bar, the poke, restaurant out the back and and the street. This is a dog friendly pub and promoted as one - if you don't like dogs best avoided. They do $5 dog meal specials! If I lived around here this would definitely be my local.

It's a pub, it has a good steak special, an Australian only wine list dominated by south Australia, it sells a bowl of salted nuts for $7 and $11 for its cheapest wine by the glass so is unsurprisngly overpriced. Its disappointing that the menu isn't more dynamic and exciting, and that the wine list isn't more extensive and broader.

Excellent returned local pub with gold grub, small but good choice of beers and wines, and some really interesting spirits, e.g. Islay Botanist gin. Had really nice special fish curry, full of chunky fish bits, good steak and nice, moist chicken.
