The Bramton Mill

We arrived on time for a confirmed OpenTable booking, only for the guy who met us to say that we did not have a booking, with the implication that we had not actually made a booking. When I showed him the acknowledgment from OpenTable and pressed further it appeared that the reason for this is that they had not received the booking email from OpenTable for some reason, something he said had happened previously and the restaurant is looking into the matter . Not very reassuring and I was rather put off by the offhand and slightly victim-blaming nature of this exchange. I hope that this will not be my experience again if I book through OpenTable! Anyway, to give him his credit he did find us a table and the rest of the meal progressed in the normal way with excellent food in a lovely ambience with friendly service. Might be better to book direct rather than use OpenTable until they have sorted out their problems, though.

Our party was two couples each of whom drove 1.5 hours to get there from different directions; we had been before and knew it would be worth the drive. One person had an intolerance to cream and the waitress (once she was aware of this) went the extra mile to discuss this with the chef and to recommend various options. Service was excellent and the food was good. The timing (both ordering and delivery of courses) was good too no pressure, no rush, but not kept waiting either. Scenic venue by the waters side. Booked online but noticed that the Open Table booking service spelt the name of the place wrong the place is the Brampton Mill and they had missed the p out of the middle. Nevertheless the Open Table booking was easy to use and the Brampton Mill were expecting us, and reasonable reminders and confirmations were sent out.

A welcome return after the recent refurbishment. It’s such a wonderful building beside the river Ouse, decor is nice and comfortable and the food was delicious. I had the spit roasted chicken with aioli and fries, which was amazing. Thank you. We’ll be back!
