Located along a side street just off the main square in Totana, Tasca Pacuco is an old style traditional tapas bar. Access from the street is through a single door, down a flight of steps into the bar room. There is also a servery at street level from those wishing to sit at a small outside eating area. A well stocked bar with cured hams, sausages salamis etc hanging from the rear of the bar area runs along the right hand side of the room. Traditional tiled bar front, bare brickwork wooden panelled ceiling add to the interior decor/design. Several 4 seater tables with chairs occupy the left side of the room. Quirky chandeliers made from various coloured glass bottles hang from the ceiling. Access down a ramp at the left side of the entrance door allows wheelchair/disabled access along a passageway into the bar from the rear. Toilets are clean, tidy fit for purpose, from memory access is via a central/communal washbasin area with the respective services either side. Staff pleasant, polite, helpful efficient. This bar is very popular with locals. At the time of our evening visit the place was busy. There were no menus on display. What was on offer was verbally dictated by the staff. Only Spanish spoken, so at the least a grasp of basic Spanish is required. The tapas was basic but reasonably presented. My view is that prices were perhaps a little more expensive than other bars offering similar food. However a pleasant atmosphere dining experience. I would probably revisit, but, just for drinks if again in the locale. Give it a try you might like it.
Despite being a little hard to find please, please persevere, you will not be disappointed if you are looking for genuine Spanish and Murcian tapas. From the outside it inconspicuous and perhaps uninspiring but inside it is authentic. The array of hot and cold tapas was wonderful and much better than any where else we have been in Spain so far. It was quite a shock to serve your own drinks from bottles on the bar! I was tempted to do the pizzas express salad bar balancing trick. We will be back whenever we can
We had a most enjoyable late tapas lunch at the Tasca Pacuco. The place was very busy but we were made most welcome and a great selection of home made tapas were on offer. I love these Spanish cafe bars where when you ask for a glass of wine the bottle is left on the table. To round off our meal we were given chocolate and home made cookies with our cafe solos. A place to return to now that we have discovered it on Calle Balsa just of the large pedestrian square.
