After we went there in the past with the tram of Heidelberg and thrugged the stairs on the vineyards, then until a nice walk to the place with a view of the Granit-Ex-Quarry, then again for well-earned beer, we knew of this place and beat it for a group of 8 for a nice relaxing night. Great choice. The table we got was on the back under the trees (it was 32 degrees C and we still had a fantastic view of the area west of Heidelberg, to Mannheim and beyond. At a nice weather day, or at noon with the sun overhead and the umbrellas above, we would have chosen one of the tables next to a 30 meter drop, and even better views. The food was unpretentious German farewells (with the occasional international dish such as garlic shrimps and cream bromele and my German friends all liked theirs. The highlights of the group were the Wiener Schnitzel and the Maultasche. The Spätzle were made at home and I enjoyed my with mushrooms and pork, although the sauce was a little salty to my taste (but this is usual in Germany I found. Good with the beer. Of course, the side salads were big and the portions were huge. The wine list is quite expensive, with Schriesheim wines prominent. We usually had white beer. It is definitely cooler on a hot night as it also had a breeze, while nothing on the ground level. I will definitely go back to my next visit to Heidelberg.

A place I loved in my childhood, my youth and now as a tourist destination when I visit from afar. The Ritter von Strahl was the first occupant of this mystical fortress. He guarded and defended the town, actually Wine City a title it received in the 14th century. For this protection, the farmers and vintners gave one tenth of their harvest to the Ritter. The wine was stored in the Zehntkeller (tenth-cellar) which today serves as a community hall. Over the centuries the Burg was destroyed several times. The last kick at the cat was delivered by Napoleon who, standing in the vineyards beside the castle, is to have said: Why would God waste such beauty on the Germans. I guess he underestimated the good taste of my countrymen, because we enjoy it tremendously.

I along with two more friends were here last month on 26th. It was a very nice experience to walk up the hill through the grape garden. And the castle itself is a restaurant. It has a beautiful view from the top. we were here for lunch, and i ordered schweinelendschen with spätzle as recommended by the waitress since i was an amateur with german food. The restuarant was very busy and with a lot of people. It took a while for the waitress to get our food. we don't feel bored to wait as this was a perfect place to chilling after walking up the hill. The food was really delicious, my friends ordered semiknödel and they were very satisfied with the meal. and the prices were not that high. I would definitely want to visit this place again.

I was given the task of planning a meeting with evening events in Schriesheim this past month. We decided to take the group for dinner at the Strahlenburg Castle. What a wonderful evening! The views from atop the hill were breathtaking and the history behind the castle were most interesting. Even without these factors I would highly recommend this for a visit just because of the food. The menu had local and regional specialties and all of the 12 people in our party enjoyed their food and had only words of praise for the food.
