SPIES-Weinstube - Klaus Ötzlinger

After a day discovering Gmunden our local hosts said that this restaurant served typical Austrian food. We all ordered the local fresh water filleted fish with vegetables and potatoes. We ordered a bottle of red wine and a bottle of white wine. The fish was moist and cooked with thyme and Rosemary. The bill came to 129 Euros. We sat outside in the sunshine in the balcony. Inside was very interesting, little nooks and crannies. Very clean toilets. The only thing that marred the visit was that the people behind us lit a cigarette. We have been spoilt by the complete ban in the U.K. on smoking in and outside of a restaurant.

Ausgezeichnetes in Butterschmalz gebackenes Wiener Schnitzel mit Petersilienkartoffeln und gemischtem Salat, bei dem alles selbst gemacht sein dürfte, bis hin zum Kartoffelsalat. Gute Auswahl an offenen Weinen. Sehr freundlich und entgegenkommend! Rustikale gemütliche Einrichtung. Öffnungszeiten beachten (derzeit leider nur Dienstag Samstag ab 17:30)! Reservierung wird empfohlen!

Local charm, warm and cozy lodge-like atmosphere. Delectable deer-sausage brat and sauerkraut main dish for less than 6 euros (WOW)! Austrian red wine is priced just right. Traditional German/Austrian salads with pickled veggies were tasty and fresh. We sat upstairs in non-smoking, which was just as welcoming as down. We are coming back for another meal before we leave Gmunden!

We went here for dinner one evening. It was a little smokier than we would have liked, but the food was delicious, they had a great wine menu, and the locals were really friendly and fun to hang with.

Good, warming food, nice atmosphere, fantastic pancakes! Saved a wet night wandering looking for somewhere to eat.
