Schweizerhof Café

We were planning to have dinner across the road at Restaurant Victoria Ritter but there were full, so this was our second choice as they had available space for dinner. We sat outside in the cool evening air. Service was slow but we were relaxed, so a leisurely meal was totally game for us. The Goulash soup was amazing – one of the best we’ve ever had! I had a Rump steak with rosti croquettes and veggies which wasn’t bad and my husband had a French pancake stuffed with Chilli con carne which was unique though the chilli was not spicy. Our mains were not brilliant but the view of the mountains with the setting sun was sublime! And we were treated to local farmers moving their cows, walking along the main road with their huge bells clanging, and this was just a few feet from our table! All in all, a most memorable meal indeed!

We have recently completed a three week rail trip around Switzerland, and this has to be the best value restaurant we came across. Their special of two generous pork schnitzels, chips and a medley of vegetables, all beautiful cooked, for CHF18 might sound quite a lot for those not used to Swiss prices but, believe me, most other places we found were charging CHF 30 and more for their main courses. The staff were very friendly and, needless to say, we ate there on each of the three nights we stayed in Kandersteg.

We had one night here where our dinner was not provided, and another TripAdvisor review prompted us to eat here. This other review said that "you are already in an expensive town in an expensive country, and the Schweizerhof is a reasonably priced place to eat". We agree and we were delighted. The service was prompt and friendly and the food was simply delicious. The Chef was excellent and all of our group (16) were really pleased with our meals. Highly recommended if you visit Kandersteg.

We dined here one night whilst on scout camp. Had the pork schnitzel, fries and vegetables. Excellent value for money, great coffee as well. Dined outside which gave us beautiful views up the mountains.

This cafe is right in the centre of Kandersteg with great menu! The staff was amzingly welcoming! I especially liked the local fish!
