I had the great pleasure to spend 2 weeks in the 7 mountains of fairy tale lore in the tiny village of Aegidienberg, just outside of Bad Honnef. While there, I stayed with my dear friend, who is also the owner of Cafe Schlimbach. As a chef and event planner myself, I was asked to taste the menu and offer constructive criticism. I personally tasted every item on the menu. What follows is a general overview. For such a small operation I was impressed that every detail is managed with great care. Ms. Schlimbach lets her years in the corporate event world influence the professionalism with which she conducts every aspect of her cafe operation. From the impeccably trained staff that greets every customer with a warm smile to flawlessly wrapping each slice of cake that leaves her shop she is truly carrying on her family's tradition of restaurant excellence. Every pastry is baked fresh daily and all other food items served at Cafe Schlimbach are of the highest quality---and very reasonably priced! In the USA you would likely pay double what they are charging here and quite possibly receive an inferior product. This is one of the biggest challenges of hospitality---keeping quality high and prices to customers affordable. I think they achieve this by offering very generous sized portions--most cakes & pastries can easily be shared! Her staff are well trained baristas and truly excel in the art of coffee making serving each cappuccino with panache! And the gelato, made locally by a true Italian ice cream artist, is divine! You truly feel like you are dining in any of Europe's larger cities with the caliber of food & service served here! If you happen to find yourself near Cafe Schlimbach, stop in have a coffee and a slice of whatever cake grabs your attention. (My favorite is the 7 Mountain cake which is a riff on the classic Austrian Sachertorte.) Trust me, they are ALL delicious!!!!!
