Restaurant St. Alban-Eck

Located in a quaint suburb only 10 minutes walk from the heart of old Basel, or 2 tram stations, this restaurant sits in a lovely old corner building with good light. According to a sign on the door, the restaurant is under new management since January, 2016. The first impression of the one large room is of a tidy old wooden parlor, only on second glance do you notice the inventive elegance of the interior. Mineral water came in a 1 Liter glass decanter (9.00 CHF), 2 kinds of warm homemade bread and a lovely oil dip with herbs and spices was brought straight away. The waitress brought an amuse gueule from the kitchen: cold smoked duck breast with spicy chinese noodles. A great start to our meal. The wife and I shared a mixed salad with house dressing and roasted seeds (13.00 CHF), which was delicious. The tuna filet was perfectly seared and came with ratatouille and quinoa (44.00 CHF), the very first time that quinoa has actually tasted good. The roasted rib-eye steak with seasonal vegetables and thymian potatos (43.00 CHF) was right on the spot. The wine list gave us a large choice of Swiss and other European wines. The 2013 Bolgheri Rosso from Michele Satta (54.00 CHF) was excellent. Service was sometimes unpredictable, but always friendly and helpful. Yes, the prices are high. But this is Switzerland, prices are high. I cannot remember enjoying a meal more in Switzerland in this price range. All in all a great start for the new management of this venerable eatery. We wish success and will definitely return on our next visit to Basel.

before my first visit, I was intrigued by the location and the righteous. it is small and fine - original and very cozy! the food is a dream and the service so something of cordial! I look forward to the next visit!

Follow the daily recommendations that are not on the menu. The food is excellent and the kitchen is ready to make all combinations desired. Location can be recommended and we will be back there.

All dishes were very good but the selction a bit limited (mainly fish and beef), upper end of pricing, portions tasty but not so big. Good wine at reasonable prices, very friendly service.

this is a small restaurant, which is quite central but is hidden. the secret in the bigbasel -:)come in and try it ! you will love it :-)
