This is one of those places that seems to inspire staggered expectations. So, for what it is worth, if you are looking for clean family entertainment without profanity or drunkenness or card-playing or smokers, all things that other reviewers have spoken ill of, you have most assuredly gone to the wrong shop, especially if you opt for the bar side rather than the restaurant side. If, conversely, you are looking for a nice selection of craft pints (with excellent NC offerings such as Foothills, Duck Rabbit, and Natty Greene), a friendly local sports bar, and some unexpectedly good wings, the bar side might just be your place. Okay, this story is more complex: My Place also rescued the missus and I from a horrible experience at Village Deli and Grill down the street. After a dreadful and deeply unsatisfactory lunch there, half of which was thrown in the trash, and for which I am hopeful for an an apology and a refund, we decided that we still needed to eat. My Place was on the way back home, so we gave it a shot. Turns out, we don 't have to drive all the way to Raleigh from Youngsville to find someplace to get a bite and a pint. It 's right(ish) around the corner in Downtown Wake Forest. We were looking for wings, a food fetish of mine that sits poorly with my other ethical commitments, but hey, I 'm on vacation. I ask if theirs are any good. While it 's a rare day that anybody says, No, they suck, I can usually get a feel for the actual enthusiasm anyone expresses about food, and the guy at the host stand says they 're awesome. And they are. What we got was advertised as grilled jerk, but probably fried first: they 're crispy and tender and the jerk rub is good, and the side of the house hot sauce that we ordered to dip--well, I know this punctuation-for-emphasis schtick is played out, but all I can say is oh. my. lawd. It 's thick and chunky and hot as a shot of tequila lit on fire (okay, that simile was stupid, and I 'm struggling here today, so indulge me): plenty o ' habaneros with a nice balance of sweet, salty, smokey, and just damned hot. They were fierce, child. Service was okay, and I can see how they might get behind if the place is full, but no problems here. Place looks like a sports bar, with TVs and high tables and such. There is a juke box that we will check out next time through. And there will be a next time, because my wife 's parents live in the woods near here, so I 've bookmarked My Place as handy holiday escape.
