Les Viviers de Port Meleu

We walked three miles along the coast path to this 'restaurant', arriving lunchtime on a Sunday. It was mid-September so there were several tables free. We were met by Le Patron who, when we asked for menus, told us we couldn't have any food as they didn't have enough! It's a restaurant! After we explained we had walked and had a long walk back, he grudgingly brought us a couple of beers, and then, very grudgingly, agreed to let us have a bowl of chips between us. While we were eating, three more lots of customers arrived in varying numbers and varying states of dress, including beachwear. All were welcomed, seated and offered menus, subsequently receiving their food orders. At no time were we asked if we had a reservation, we were dressed similarly to everyone else, so the only conclusion we came to was that it was because we were British, despite us speaking to the staff in fluent French (I'm a translator!). We will not be returning!!

Bon j'avais commandé sur la carte un bar. Jusque là tout allait bien ! C'est seulement en dégustant la bête que je compris qu'il s'agissait d'un bar d'élevage et non d'un bar sauvage comme on pourrait s'y attendre sur la côte atlantique ! Interrogée la patronne me l'a avoué. Aucune saveur la bête ! La moindre honnêteté voudrait que la mention "bar d'élevage" figure sur la carte. Pour ma part je considère qu'il y a tromperie sur la marchandise, surtout en payant 25 euros.

Very good experience as always. The baking of the bar was exemplary and the purée was well decorated with cumin! I recommend this restaurant already for its exceptional setting, facing the sea. The price is still a little high, but we are coming back with pleasure!

2 agréables déjeuners même si le soleil était absent. Bonne ambiance tranquille - Cuisine locale agréable et gustative?
