We were so excited to come back to Charlevoix to have dinner at le mouton noir. Unfortunately, the service was a big zero and the staff was very inattentive and not present for clients. During dinner we saw clients getting up with empty bread of basket asking for more and also saw disappointed clients with quality of food. For us, we had to wait more than an hour receive our appetizers which I'm sorry were not worth the wait (did someone try the gazpacho before serving it?) and more than 90 minutes for the main dish. At this point we were frustrated to wait this long for food and flustered with the service (specially when the 2 other tables that received appetizers at the same time as us) got served 20 Minutes before us !!! And yes we had the same main dishes!!! At this point we were so fed up that we have let the waitress know how we felt. She was kind enough to offer free drinks but we kindly refused as all we wanted was to get out of there. To the owner: I'm not sure how long you can surf on your popularity and references from concierge at le germain and surrounding hotels. We wanted to give your restaurant the benefit of the doubt by ignoring all the poor comments on TripAdvisor for the past 2 months but we should have believed them! We wish you luck and hope that one day it will be what it used to be.

Clearly a favorite among the local populace and visitors to this warm, friendly town, we found the restaurant relatively average. Le Mouton Noir is not a "touristy" restaurant - it is well known for it's gastronomy and takes it's food seriously. The menu, though small, is imaginative and dishes are well designed and presented. Where it fell short, however, was in the lack of taste - bland and unseasoned. The only flavorful dish was the carrot soup flavored with crystallized ginger and a touch of local cheese. The award-winning carrot cake - only if you like a dense cake. On the positive - portions are huge - one main is easily enough for two. Service was brisk and polite - even on a full night.

I stopped here hoping for a great meal by the river. This is a very quaint place & has a ton of potential. It was 4;30 pm & there were 3 people in the place including me.After the host seated me on the deck she took my drink order & then disappeared. after waiting 15 minutes, i decide to leave. I was prepared to drop $60 or more but could not get any service. In a small quaint town like Baie St-Paul where there are tons of restaurant, the restaurant people need to sharpen up their pencils or loose the business. will never go there again.

We chose a table on the deck as it was a warm evening. There was a gas heater but it didn't need to be turned on that night. The service was friendly and helpful and the staff had both English and French menus and spoke English for us. The food was superb. We had appies, dinner and dessert and all was excellent. We went back the following night and would have gone again except they are closed Monday and Tuesday. Wish we could find a restaurant this good at home!
