The only good thing about this restaurant was the carafe of wine. The food was bland, had no flavour and no spice at all. The portions were tiny... the chicken with mushrooms had about four pieces of chicken. We have been to Vietnam many times and indeed lots of great Vietnamese restaurants at home (New Zealand) and were so bitterly disappointed. We tried to talk to the owner who didn’t want to know and reasoned that because he’d been in castelnaudary for 35 years he must be doing ok. Well all we can say is that maybe the French are so starved of Asian food in this town they don’t know any different. We do...and won’t be back ...ever.
Having solidly been eating French food for over a month we were delighted to come across a Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant for a change. The decor was a bit dated and in need of obvious repairs however we weren't concerned over that. The staff were welcoming and friendly but unfortunately the food was dreadfully bland and expensive for the portion size. We were going to order starters but changed our mind however in hindsight wish we had as the table next to us ordered the mixed starters which looked nice although it is likely they were ordered in pre done. We came away hungry and disappointed.
Have been to this restaurant many times either while on my boat in the harbour, or in a motorhome at the campsite. Always very friendly staff and very good food. Excellent starter salads, plus their nems are always good and served correctly with lettuce and mint. Wine prices excellent by the pitcher. Good spicy food if you order piquant. Closed tuesday and wednesday, sadly.
There aren't many places open on a cold wet Sunday in May for travellers without a reservation. We went into Le Dragon because it was open and could take us. What an unexpected treat. It is a family run oriental restaurant beautifully decorated with oriental antiques. The food is good not particularly vietnamese, more chinese in my opinion but does not suffer for that!
