Le Chantilly - Reservar uma mesa

Following reviews and recommendations, we had planned to eat at Le Bistrot - only to find they were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (May 2010). Having no 'Plan B' we looked for a restaurant that seemed popular with French folk, had a reasonably extensive choice and looked welcoming, and selected Le Chantilly. The staff were incredibly friendly, service was efficient (but with never a sense of being rushed), the food was not expensive but of a very high quality. Depending on the day, and time of day, menus start at 12 euros. We chose the 20 euro menu for the evening, which included drinks, and were very impressed . . . with everything. The food is unpretentious, honest, fresh, and the portions very satisfying. We were the only non-French diners! We took lunch there too, with a different menu, the following day. Strongly recommended.

The set menu offered a terrine de campagne, which was actually ok, but the avocado and crab were pretty poor. Similarly, the steak (although very thin) was actually alright, but the hake was really soggy and not very tasty. To top it off, the waiter got the ice cream order wrong. Doh!

Average holiday meals. You need to ask for alternatives to rice or chips. Very helpful if not peak times. However during Kite Festival and last 2 weeks August can wait up to an hour for a table, lunch and dinner. best to get there...as they open.

Had lunch at the restaurant. Food choices were the usual fare for this type of place. The service was friendly, fast and attentive. My moules/frites were excellent.

We never got to eat here as we arrived at 8.45 pm with people still ordering and we're told categorically that they were closed. Very poor customer service
