Our village entertains over 65s to an annual lunch, wife and I qualify. This year it was L 'Auberge de Villy le Pelloux. Travellers should note it is seconds away from the St Martin de Bellevue Payage between Geneva and Annecy so a handy stop for a meal. A bar bistro at the entrance, a good sized, pleasant dining room behind. In the circumstances I cannot comment on costs as we were guests. An unusual start without plates! Platters of a delicious foie gras and smoked salmon of generous size were passed around with bread. The entrée was scallops which were certainly the best I have had in a long while, accompanied by an excellent St.Veran white. This was followed by filet mignon of veal of quite exceptional quality and like the scallops cooked to perfection, accompanied by an excellent Vacqueras red which also accompanied to perfection the following plate of local cheeses. Strangers to the area should note that this is the heartland of the Tome de Savoie and the Reblochon cheeses, it is hard to find the latter worth sampling far from its home as it does not travel well. The desert was a selection of amuse bouches of quite exceptional delicacy. The chef was presented to us, astonishingly young but evidently highly motiivated and as highly talented. This restaurant is only about 6km from our home so I am asking myself how we have not eaten there before! I unreservedly recommend it!
