"I'm late submitting this review from our 2013 France trip. The restaurant is delightful and the food is superb. Service was terrific. The decor was modern and orange :). Comfortable seating and an attractive menu. Price was a bit high but we felt that the quality of the food was worth the cost."

We visited this restaurant before it relocated to its current location. Having experienced a rather average meal in a cramped setting we thought it was worthy of a second visit in its new surroundings. You will find the restaurant just outside Niort on the road to La Rochelle. It is off the roundabout heading towards the large CPAM offices. The sign is rather poor and a little hidden by vegetation so easy to miss first time round. The restaurant is modern, large and open aired to an extent with a play on the colour white, clearly someone has invested quite a sum in relocating the restaurant. The staff are attentive and welcoming and seemed well placed while unobtrusive, however, it is about the food and while they have made an improvement on the mise en bouche very little else has changed, they appear to experiment with ingredients and flavour combinations and in the hands of a master it may well have succeeded unfortunately it seems in my view they have a long way to go before they get their "black belt"My fish once again was overcooked and in an awful overpowering sauce which was unfortunate as it was with an added cost for a premium fish. Likewise my husband dish was a miss match of flavours heavy with cream and butter as with other dishes. The waiter asked whether we enjoyed the food as he saw there was quite a lot left on the plates having told him I'm afraid that was the end of the conversation and nothing else was mentioned. Why do restaurant staff (when they do ask) what you thought about the dish then appear rather blank, upset and lost for what to do next. Clearly they either believe their food is the manna from heaven or they do not expect you to tell them the way it is rather, all smiles and very nice thank you very much. Well in my view although the surroundings are quite pleasing to the eye the menu needs a rethink and the quality of the cooking needs to improve. About 130 euros for two for me not worthy of another visit.

Not only an excellent chef but an obliging one - due to my tomato allergy the chef made a seperate sauce for my chicken main course despite being on the superb, but no choice, e17, lunch deal(as did the Clos de Cours, Saintes but not the Scorlion in St. Jean - you remember the extra mile people). Due to its location, outside the city centre, we had never been to the restaurant before - shame - they offer an excellent meal which included a superb starter of mixed smoked seafood with the best fish mouse I have ever tasted and a strange sounding desert, apple soup with peach which finished the meal with a smile on your face. We will be going back for the evening choices. Value for money/quality second to none in Niort on the food, pricey at e4.50 per glass of wine. Why do smart chefs often refuse to offer good value carafes? Easy to find, follow the La Rochelle signs out of the city centre, about 2 kms out of the centre, on left, if you see a big Chinese restaurant of your left you have overshot by 150 yards, tiny frontage but smart inside.

attentive staff and a charming ambience in a relaxed modern environment make the perfect opportunity to enjoy imaginative dishes at realistic prices. And it is worth experimenting with each of the set menus to experience the full range of chef's expertise. You can even rely of the staff's ability to adapt the menus to suit any vegetarians in your party and you won't be disappointed.

Spent a weekend in La Rochelle and stopped here on the way back to Paris. Absolutely delicious --refined, creative and every course not only beautifully presented but tasty, well balanced, simply yummy.Definitely worth the detour--don't be fooled by the exterior(although they told us they were moving to a nicer location end year) it's a gem. Service was wonderful as well.
