We booked the La Godille on the staff nite off in our hotel. The place was not large , but full of character , nicely laid out. There is a downstairs but tis doesn't give the same vibe and I suggest best to avoid if possible. The tables are very close together to the point where when sat at, you cant get out and have to climb over people, which again is offputting. They could turn the tables and also take the odd one out to make proper room to move, but I guess as its small they want to cram as many in as possible.English is not spoken by the staff well, only one was good at conversing with. They do seem understaffed also. The meal ended up being quite strange really. We ordered the strips of steak which you cook yourself on a very hot plate !!! and get 3 sauces with it. it is a meal for two, comes with chips and salad etc..... BUT we noticed 2 other tables had ordered similarly and we got quite concerned as they serve the raw meet on your plate each, the salad etc is on the plate also.. SO when you cook a couple of pieces of steak you now have cooked meat and raw meat on the same plate, plus your chips and salad are sitting in the raw meat juices. I thought everyone knew your NOT supposed to mix raw meat and cooked meat ??????.. We called the waitress over and questioned this practice .. it was met with a blank expression and she called over a male waiter, who could speak English, we explained we wanted a separate plate for the raw meat and he agreed to do so. However the raw meet still came out with the salad as others had been given, but we now had a smaller plate so we could cook the steak and put it on a fresh plate, however, the salad and chips were sat in the raw meat juices. You also only had one fork so was using this to pick up the raw meat and to actually eat from once cooked. It has to be said that the starter we had and the main course food was good, we cooked it ourselves !!!! on the hot plate... The service was on the slow side. We was sat before another couple and had already ordered wine and water, which only came after we chased twice... but they had been seated and had wine before us.... So overall not a great experience, tho the food was ok in the end. Its a nice place (upstairs) quite pretty, but they have no idea on hygiene and good service, needs improvement ..... On returning back to our hotel, some others had been to another restaurant and had a similar meal, BUT they had the raw meat served on a separate plate and also a prong with which to pick up the raw meat to drop onto the hot plate tocook... so NO contamination at all and no upset stomaches....Look La Godille , it doesn't take much to make your place a great place.... A little more food awareness and don't cram tables in to every space so there is no room to move out from your table..... MMMMM mixed feelings here..... could do better
