"We were hypothermic when we arrived. Blankets were wrapped round us. Coffee was poured down us. Hot potato was served and we were sat, dripping profusely, in front of an open fire until we stopped shaking uncontrollably. It was magnificent. Thank you so much!!!"

Passed this place on the way back to our Gite & after checking out the reviews on tripadvisor decided to call in for dinner. Initially we were very impressed with the interior which was small but quirky. Ordered a half bottle of red which was lovely & inexpensive. Only downside was the number of flies we had to keep batting away. Our steaks arrived and were on the whole inedible ... Just pieces of fat basically. We were then swarmed with flies and would have been unable to eat even if it had been good! It appeared to be only in the area we were seated that troubled from too many flies, the waitress could see our problem, and we did wonder why we'd been seated there when there were other empty tables. Eventually we asked if we could be moved and ordered dessert. The cost for two of us for 2 inedible steaks & dessert which consisted of 1 scoop of ice cream for my partner and a honey yoghurt for myself came to 70 euros which we didn't feel was good value for the quality of food and the type of establishment. We did wonder if our menu was priced differently to the one given to locals! If we were in England we would certainly have complained, but speaking no French we didn't feel in was worth the effort.

We were walking in the Pyrenees with 'Mountain Bug' based in Bareges. Rob our wonderful walking guide insisted we try this restaurant.. A unique and tasty experience. We barbequed the superb cuts of different meats and cheeses at our table (the little brazier was radiating heat!) and we were recommended an excellent bottle of local wine. Try the organic local lamb, a specialist product of the region. A relaxed atmosphere out of town in a beautiful setting.

We came down col du Tourmalet after discovering everything at the peak was closed. Our descent was freezing and we arrived shaking with hypothermia. We were greeted with blankets, a fire and coffee. We thawed out and had a hearty lunch in a authentic atmosphere whilst our gear dried out. Good food, good coffee and although we did not eat dessert the table nearby had seriously impressive oversized desserts.

Just 10 minutes of cycling down from Col de Tourmalet, in driving rain & sleet and with windchill below zero, had left 3 of us hypothermic and shaking with cold. But our host just grabbed us, stuck us in front of the open fire and poured coffee down us until finally we were well enough to devour the hot potato she set before us. Magnificent - a true lifesaver. Merci beaucoup, Madame!
