Over the long weekend in Dundee, I decided to visit Italian Grill with my friends. We all enjoy Italian food and had heard decent reviews about this place. The service was average, nothing outstanding. Unfortunately, the food was subpar and the wine was not enjoyable. The value for money was poor as well. When we were seated, we were given the menu, which on first glance did not seem very Italian at all. It was a strange mix of pizza, pasta, burgers, and other items that seemed out of place. I tried to order the Italian Fish Stew, but the waitress informed me that they were out of fish, which was disappointing considering Dundee's proximity to the sea. I ended up getting the Pizza Parma on her recommendation, but it was a disappointing experience with a heavy, doughy base and cheap ingredients. The pizza did not have the authentic taste of being cooked in a wood-fired oven. My wife's lasagna was not up to par either, being too tomato-rich and lacking in flavor. Even our 7-year-old daughter was unimpressed with her macaroni and cheese from the kids menu, saying the school canteen version was better. The house wines were also not enjoyable. Overall, the food was some of the worst I have had in an Italian restaurant. It's no wonder the place was quiet on a Friday evening, as there was no atmosphere to speak of. Even with my background of having Italian friends and dining in Italian restaurants frequently, I do not see myself returning to Italian Grill. It was a poor experience with no value for money.
