Irun'go Atsegina

We came here for dinner on a wednesday evening and were almost the only guests. The restaurant is quite in the centre of Irun, you take some steps downstairs and you find yourself in a spacious and nicely decorated restaurant, looks like a wine cellar. When we entered the right side there was the grill where they just had prepared the fire and we decided to have some grilled meat or fish. Service was very attentive and helped us choose food and drink. The grilled steak (Txuleta) was excellent, a decent size which doesn't leave you hungry and the wine was also tasty. Very recommendable!

Arrived too early for the restaurant which doesn't open until 8 but sat in the bar upstairs with a beer until it opened. Too early for any signs of life and we sat in an empty restaurant (our fault long day of travelling). The service was excellent and the waiter spoke much better English than our Spanish. Food was average but probably a lot better ambience once the place is buzzing and the kitchen firing on all cylinders later in the evening. Nice decor downstairs but rather large for the four of us alone.....

The full name of this bar/café/restaurant is actually the Irun 'go Atsegiña . It has a proper sit-down restaurant and also long, family-style tables in the bar area. The bar has very tasty tapas (try the cod with peppers--bacalao con pimientos) and enormous, warm, fresh sandwiches for a reasonable price. Their house special sandwich has grilled pork loin, bell peppers, cheese and mushrooms. They also serve platos combinados in the bar area that are filling, simple food at reasonable prices.

The service is disgusting. We waited more than 40 minutes for the usual fries. The waiter was rude. They don't have time for anything! They ordered take-out, brought it to the hall and gave the order to other customers. In the check carried out not the amount that we ordered. I don't recommend to go here!

If U have the chance to be in Irun, just go in this restaurant. A very good one. The meals are very good. U can choose the Menu or get piece by piece.
