Il Sorriso offers a perfectly serviceable traditional Italian menu that will please diners with flavorful sauces and fair portions. We were attracted to Il Sorriso by its Restaurant Week menu, which included a wide selection for all three courses. We made a reservation for 8:30 on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was full when we arrived which is always a good sign. The atmosphere is upscale casual, with waiters in blue jeans maneuvering around tables draped in white linens. It took the staff about five minutes to send out a host to greet us after we arrived, but once discovered we were promptly seated. This was about par for an evening of efficient but unvarnished service. Our waiter was competent but not especially warm or effusive about the menu. But we also had one genuine moment of excellent serving when another waiter clearing our plates noticed that we had left half our portions on the plate and asked if everything was OK. It was more on that below , but the question contained sincere concern. We were grateful for that level of care. Ordering wine required a leap of faith since no wine list or prices were offered. Instead, our waiter simply listed a standard array of wines by the glass cabernet, pinot noir, shiraz, malbec, chianti, chardonnay, etc. but said nothing more about them. He mentioned that they had a wine list, but only for wines served by the bottle, and he didn't seem especially enthusiastic about tracking it down for us. A menu at this price point $20+ for regular entrees should have a wine list with appropriate details about the type, winery, country of origin, and vintage even for wines by the glass. As it happened, we got two generous pours of a pinot noir and malbec for $9.50 a pop, but the restaurant may have left money on the table by not selling us on a bottle. We ordered off the Restaurant Week menu, and started off the appetizer course with PEI mussels and meatballs. The mussels had good flavor and came in a garlic tomato broth with a ton of heat behind it. The meatballs also were just fine moist, a little salty, and covered in melted cheese. We did take issue with the bread served with both starters. The crostini accompanying the mussels were burned on the edges, and the bread under the meatballs was a soggy sponge by the time we got to it. Our mains were the hit of the night. I ordered the house made pappardelle with shrimp in a cream sauce, while my wife ordered the homemade mushroom ravioli. The shrimp were plump, the cream sauce was rich, and the homemade pasta was rustic and tender. The ravioli was similarly delicious, and my wife enjoyed the earthiness of the mushrooms that were both stuffed in the pasta and heaped on top of the dish. We exercised restraint in tackling the healthy portions on both plates in order to save room for dessert, and took about half of our entrees home. We also quite enjoyed the mixed berry tart and apple strudel for dessert. We actually were hoping to order more traditional Italian desserts the tiramisu and the ricotta cheesecake but they were all out of the latter, and we turned away from the former after we saw the tiny portions coming out of the kitchen. Both dishes had fair portions and appeared homemade, and my wife particularly enjoyed the flavors in the tart's fruit compote. We will definitely come back to Il Sorriso. We would like to try their pizza which they apparently prepare in an oven situated in the middle of the main dining room and we'd love to have a couple of glasses of wine on their patio overlooking the Hudson.

I went to Il Sorriso for a group party and was very disappointed with the food. They gave us some kind of complimentary bean dip that looked delicious but tasted like vinegar. We had some kind of chicken and for some reason it didn't taste like Italian food but more like Chinese food . Everything tasted like it needed salt , especially the pasta appetizer we had. Pasta water must be salted otherwise it tastes like nothing and that's basically what it tasted like. The service was good but the food was not. I won't be returning .

Just came here tonight for dinner while on business in the area. We were delighted with the charming view and clean interior. $5. Glass of wine and we ordered PEI mussels to start. The bread was delicious dipped in the sauce. I had the pappardelle and shrimp....it was excellent! My husband had the fettuccini with sausage, plum tomatoes and mushrooms. Delicious... served piping hot! Fresh and homemade.... I'm picky... I'm a very excellent Italian cook at home. I recommend this rest
