"Terrible place! Bad service, bad food, dirty/smelling toilets. Worst place we ever visit. And they refused to take creditcard even they had the terminal and 4G. We were forced to cycle 20 km to get cash!"

On my Day Trip to Linderhof Palace (Germany) I decided to take a short excursion into Austria, as it 's only a few Kilometers away from the Border (without Border Checkpoints thanks to the Schengen Agreements), around noon. So, I was looking for a place to eat here on TA, and the Forelle is the one that tickled my fancy. I arrived at this place which overlooks the Plansee. And besides being a Restaurant, is also a Cafè and Hotel. There is a large Parking lot which was almost filled to capacity, it has a cost but that cost is waived for Customers of the Restaurant Cafè who get a token to put in the machine from their Waiter. I chose to be seated on the large outdoor Terrace overlooking the Lake. The tables did have umbrellas to shield them from the Sun, though I didn 't take into account the current position of the Sun and was seated mostly on the sunny side for most of the time. The Meal First I ordered an Almdudler (Herbal Soda typical of Austria) since I felt that 's something fitting. Then I perused the Menu which had quite a few choices that I would 've loved to try. But, in a place called Forelle (Trout) what 's better than trying the Trout? So I ordered a Forelle Müllerin (a la Meunière), which incidentally happened to be my first experience with this Dish. Though I 've seen it on many Menus throughout Germany and Austria, I 've never had the courage to order it. Having been somewhat traumatized against whole Fish in my childhood by my Grandfather constantly shouting: watch out for the bones! Don 't choke! . Still, I 'm trying to get over certain things, and trying a Dish which I could 've had a thousand times but didn 't was a good step to take. The Fish arrived after a short wait, accompanied by Parsley Potatoes and a small Side Salad. Not having any previous experience, I would still say that the Fish (which had a piece of Herbal Butter on it that was melting slowly) was cooked to perfection. Yes, some bones needed to be picked out, but all in all it was a great Dish and I enjoyed it. My Almdudler being finished by now, I opted to order a Sparkling Water or Minerale as the Waiter called it. I opted to also go for Dessert, even though I was already feeling full, but there 's always room for Dessert, isn 't there? A Palatschinke (Austrian Crêpe-like pancake) with Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Sauce. Once again, by the time I thought to take a picture of it, I had finished it. I paid somewhere in the region of €25 for a Main, Dessert and 2 Non-Alcoholic Drinks, which I found more than fair for the quality of Food, the friendly Service and the awesome Alpine Panoramas of the Lake and the Mountains surrounding it. It 's also close to a Dock for the Boat which takes you around the Lake. The Service was very efficient and friendly, and not once did I feel rushed, even though it was a busy day and I was occupying a table by myself. I would be happy to come here again if I 'm in that Area, and try some of the other things they have on the Menu.

I´ve lived in this area for years and I regularly bring guests to this location, the beauty and tranquility make it a worthwile visit, the only problem is that bikers tend to crowd the road on weekends and spoil the peace and quiet, obviously the Restaurant is powerless to stop motor bike noise! They´ll never win a Star for their food but it´s wholesome and filling, the Apfelstruedel is great though and my `Staple Diet´on Tours, you can´t visit Tirol without eating Apstruedel, purgutory awaits for those don´t !Waiters and waitresses will treat you as you treat them,I was a waiter for 20 years so when somebody annoyed me he risked having not a nice time,be nice to whoever brings your food, It´s a longway from the kitchen to you table! ;) The valley of Plansee is beauty pure, don´t miss it and make sure you take out some time at the Forelle, the views from the terrace are stunning!Enjoy your holidays, they´re expensive enough!

We stopped here while on a private tour. I had a dish that was either pork or veal in a cream sauce with spätzle (it's been a couple months since our visit and I just can't remember which meat it was). It was great. The view of the lake and surrounding mountains is unbelievable.

We wandered around the Heiterwangersee and stayed here for lunch. I can't say the food was amazing, but it was definitely an unforgettable place to stop and spend an hour. The lake is beautiful and a great place for a summer swim.
