Ferme de la Bache is a restaurant in an old farmhouse near Beaune that only serves dinner on Friday, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and lunch on Sunday. We had some difficulty finding it but Google maps online came to the rescue. We had not called to make a reservation for Sunday lunch but it was early and we were seated in a delightful room looking out onto the terrace. There were two large rooms, each with a big fireplace, and there were simple paintings of the white horses of the Camargue, and of men on horseback rounding them up. A lovely, very old looking tapestry hung by the fireplace. We were brought the most scrumptious cheese biscuits to nibble as we perused the offerings. We decided on the 20 Euro menu, which included four courses, and it was difficult to choose which dishes we wanted. While I was trying to decide between the salad paysanne (lettuce with bits of ham, bacon, and small croutons, with a light and tasty dressing) or the house terrine, the owner indicated that both were included! My main course was escalope de poulet a la crème with grilled potatoes, and my husband’s was a delicious cut of beef with crispy frites (fries). Next came a cheese course, which we assumed would include a few slices of the regional cheeses, so imagine our surprise when the owner’s daughter brought out a cheese board with seven whole cheeses and told us to eat as much as we liked! For dessert, my husband chose two scoops of ice cream with a homemade chocolate chip cookie, while I sampled the tarte tatin with a scoop of ice cream. I assumed that it would be something like an apple pastry but it seemed more like thickened apple juice – no apples in sight. It was interesting but very sweet – even for me! There was so much food we were unable to eat it all, but we made our best effort as everything except my dessert was so very, very good. We left wondering how the owners could provide so much good food for such a small price! We would love to return!

This is French country cooking in a rural area near Beaune about 10 kms away. Their opening hours are Friday for dinner, Saturday for lunch and dinner and Sunday for lunch. (I think). Best to make a reservation. The welcome from the female owner was a bit cold and unfriendly when we were shown to our table. We had no plates for the complimentary starter of a bread with cheese roll type of thing and the basic baguette bread. Ordered wine and a pitcher of water and had no glass for the water. The baked potatoes are cooked in the open fireplace -that was nice. Only a few options on the menu. They all come with a good salad and pate but the serving is so huge it is very odd. Again had no plate to eat the pate with. My husband had the steak and I had the pork. Both were nice. The cheese course was the fromage blanc which is popular in the area-but we did not care for. When she asked us about dessert she was very annoyed and made rude comments and eye rolls when we did not understand her. Needless to say we were too full to eat dessert anyway and paid the bill and left. Cheers and happy eats.

A charming little country restaurant recommended by Trip Advisor. The building dates back to Roman times, and we actually drove past the restaurant because the exterior is so unassuming. But inside you find a delightful room with a huge fireplace and welcoming owners.Travelers should note that while the food is very good, the quantities are enormous, and the price is very reasonable. So while this may not be a Michelin star restaurant you find in Beaune, it was a delightful travel experience. So, our dinners included a starter, first course, main course, cheese course, and dessert. We also enjoyed some quality (not a premier cru) wine. Our bill for four was 98 euros. Does the price reflect inferior quality? Not in the eyes of this reviewer. The quality of the food was excellent, but the presentation was less formal than what one finds in Beaune restaurants. Ferme de la Bache is a country inn, and the atmosphere and presentation reflects just that.We enjoyed our visit; and we did leave stuffed!

It is not easy to find Ferm de la Bache. You must take D970 west out of Beaune toward Bligny, and go 10 km., then look for this little farmhouse restaurant on the left. As the previous reviewer stated, it has fantastic atmosphere and it serves great quantities of French country fare at amazingly low prices. The daily menu of four huge courses was only 20 Euro, and we could not eat it all. The entire restaurant was filled with local French residents. We were the only tourists.
