My family went here for lunch; there were 7 of us including 2 picky younger kids (4, 7). You feel like you have been invited to a family meal. The staff were attentive, friendly and patient with our horrible French. We ate inside, in what looks like it was the original kitchen or main room of the house; there was a very large fireplace at one end. Our table had a pitcher of water and a bottle of wine on the table, which was included with our meal. We ordered the 19.50 euro menu: Apéritif, Soup, Terrine, Duck Shepherd 's Pie , Salad, Cheese Course and Dessert. All the food is served family style on large patters. This is an incredible value, there was a lot of food. The food is delicious! The soup was a bread soup that was one of the best soups I have had in a long time. Next we had terrine, again tasty. The Duck Shepherd 's Pie and Salad were served next, the salad had a lovely light dressing and Duck Pie was flavourful, with a good balance between meat and potato. The Cheese course was accompanied by house made strawberry jam and courgette marmalade, which we purchased in the restaurant store. Dessert was served individually in lovey glass pots, we had rich chocolate dessert, berry dessert and some ice cream. This was one of the most memorable meals of our holiday. The lunch took about 3 hours and the overall experience reminded me of long family meals around a big table. The food simple but incredibly delicious, so even the 2 younger picky kids had a great meal and the unique experience kept them engaged the whole time. It is definitely worth planning at meal at Le Bareil.
