We came here 4 years ago and had the most wonderful lunch. A multi course tasting menu which showcased some excellent cooking. One of our firm plans for this year's trip to the Costa Brava was a return visit to El Fort. Sadly, we were disappointed. We arrived when the restaurant was moderately busy a few tables on the terrace were occupied with people enjoying a drink, but few people seemed to be dining. A lady who seemed to be the manageress was with us when we sat down. And then we waited for a long time whilst nothing happened. A waitress appeared once in a while to bring out drinks to other tables which must have been ordered some time previously. We were about to conclude that we had been forgotten and leave when a tablecloth and menu appeared. The menu seemed a bit disorganised it was difficult to work out whether there was a sequence to any of the dishes. We ordered a couple of drinks and a coffee, and our food was mixed vegetable, a bean and pork dish, local roast chicken, and steak tartare. And then we waited. And waited. No sign of our drinks. Other people came, sat down, waited for a while, and left again without being served. At one point 3 tables left at once. The sole waitress was clearly upset by this she must have been responsible for taking orders, getting the drinks, and serving food both indoors and outside on her own. The manageress was nowhere to be seen. Some drinks eventually arrived, but the coffee was cold. Half an hour later, the first two dishes arrived. They were very pleasant. We still hadn't got our bottle of water so had to get this from inside ourselves. The second round of dishes arrived, including a lukewarm chicken leg. None of the food was particularly exciting (other than the 0km benefit of being local). We decided we'd had enough after that (2.5 hours later), so paid the €80 bill and left. My husband did tell the mangeress how disappointed we were, that service was far too slow (we were on holiday so a leisurely pace wouldn't have bothered us), and that it wasn't right for one waitress to be responsible for everything. The manageress half apologised. There is some serious reflection by the restaurant management needed to make this restaurant work again.

Now renamed Ca la Lola I presume after the wonderful Chef as we remember her on our previous visit four years ago. Our previous visit was amazing. We had a tasting menu with beautiful locally sourced ingredients and organic wines. However upon our return the restaurant inside we did not see (it was reserved) but were told they would take us for lunch as a party of two. Seemingly with reluctance. No-one appeared to be eating and the one waitress was busy serving drinks to none diners. We seemed to wait for ever before the owner reappeared with menus. It 's this page and was gone again. A confusing menu of food groups but no real indication of portion size or what dishes should be combined to form a meal. The owner returned to take our drinks order. A glass of wine, water, a small beer and a coffee. These took over an hour to arrive and no water. Still no-one else appeared to be dining so the kitchen can 't have been that busy. The waitress then got very upset as later arrivals started walking away. We maybe should have legged it before the drinks arrived. I went to speak to the waitress to ask for the water and tell her not to be so upset as the owner didn 't appear to be helping at all. Maybe she was devoted to the three tables in the dining room I managed to glimpse? As I returned to the table the food has arrived. The chicken was not mass produced but a local farm chicken. Excellent in flavour but slow cooked over what may have been a number of days judging by the half a roast potatoe that accompanied it. It certainly didn 't take nearly three hours to make it 's way from pot to plate to patio. It was cold. So sadly a once revered and much to be applauded restaurant is woefully badly managed.

Tried the menu del dia, and although food was very tasty, order taking, service and response to queries was far too slow ... slow cooking all very good, but desperately slow service not so much. Menu del dia plus mediocre bottle of wine came to more than 45 euros. Will not be returning

We had lunch in this real gem of a find and my first slow food experience. The food was delicious and unique, as were the local wines that we tried. Great to meet the chef afterwards as well. Staff very attentive.
