"We stayed overnight in St Omer again just to eat and drink here. La Bracine Tripple is the best beer in the world. Sadly no griddle going so didn't get the same steaks, but it was very warm outside! great service anyway and will be back soon. Best Irish Coffee in the country."

I have been to this restaurant 3 times during the last 5-6 years when passing through the area. I love the restaurant, and would go more often if I could. There is a good atmosphere and the decor is both fun and interesting - with old adverts and newspaper articles, and the vaulted cellar is a lovely place to eat. Flemish food is delicious, but may come as a surprise, if you are not sure what to expect. So if you like to try regional cuisine, it's good to find out about it first, so you know what to look for on menus. Chicken with Maroilles is delicious - I buy Maroilles in France, so I can cook this dish back home - but if you don't like strong cheese, then go for the tasty carbonade - beef casserole. Chicons are a delicious vegetable, but sadly, seldom seen in the UK. These too are good cooked with Maroilles. This time we were joined by French friends who live in Lille, and our friend was very impressed with the Potjevleesch. We've been drinking bottled Goudale for years - it is the best of all French beers. This was the first time we found it as a pression, and it is even better that way.

I've read most of the reviews and I'm surprised at the few bad ones. We counted about 30 people there on a Wednesday lunchtime. We were amused by the decor (bras and pants, all clean, naturally!). The menu was varied and the choice excellent. Service was efficient. We had the beef stew -excellent and the ribs as well as the roast halibut. All beautifully cooked and good sized portions. It leans in a more Flemish then French direction but that suited us. We especially liked the cheese and bacon starter. A great find. Would go there again without hesitation and would recommend it to others.

We ate there and enjoyed the ambience, the service and most of the food...The special was beef and it honestly wasn't very special - it was very tough. Everything else - starters, the other main course (an excellent pork chop) and the wine was great but we were slightly disappointed. It is good value though and a nice atmosphere so I can understand the generally rave reviews and I think we just chose badly and should have kept to their regular options.

Second time we've been here in the last few years and food and service have gone downhill, both lacking in quality and finesse. I know it's a "brasserie" and not a five-star restaurant but there's no excuse for stale bread and watered-down vodka in the dessert. I hope British people visiting St Omer won't take this as representative of Northern French food and restaurant service.....
