Das Café-krefeld

Beatniks, and least that’s what we called them in the 50s and 60s……Long-haired poets, musicians, artists, coffee-drinking-hash-tokin-ban-the-bombin-beatniks were the Art Students of the future..( think duffel coats) and the Coffee Culture purveyors of today.Now when approaching Das Café you would be forgiven if you thought that you had been sucked back in time as from the haze the shadowy outlines of bearded long haired types appear....guys too...and the sound of laughter and debate. But fair-dos, “Das Café’s …err… "hipsters" are altogether a cleaner bunch…but artists philosophers, students, musicians, film makers they seem to be...or at least hope to be....and most I guess are Vegetarians, or even Vegans…but there is meat on the Chalk Board daily… ( messy chef ) Ha!The ethos here seems simple...out with the formal and in with the friendly, which was as a 60 yr old visitor, was a pleasant surprise.I really have been so impressed with this Café, the food is fresh and all home made, the meals too ( they do have at least one Vegetarian meal every day on the chalk board ) are wonderful.....the soups are a dream.The atmosphere is lovely, yes above all, the nicest thing about this place is the people, they are so nice! Go there

Have you ever wished to take a ride in a time machine? Well, here you are! Visit "Das Cafe" and travel back some centuries. This place has only five tables for customers and some more out on the sidewalk in summer. At lunchtime they offer a rather limited choice of dishes at very competitive prices. Furthermore you can have some light snacks and lots of drinks. They specialize in homestyle cooking with an interesting choice of German dishes.
