Went to La Brace for a celebratory romantic dinner, small storefront restaurant with 10-12 tables max in charming town of LittleFallsNJ. Parking was a little tough, had to park at local bank 's parking lot but it was late so NP. BYOB, we brought a great conchaYtoro cab in anticipation and it was worth it. You must have reservations for this place, while we tried to make the reservations we had problems. Between the late hour of our arrival and the large group of 16 or so local regular diners at the place (apparently it 's an once a week gathering they were beyond capacity, but the waiter (son? and Nicola ultimately let us sit at the table. All of our dishes were fresh, intriguing, filling and new to our taste buds. As long as I 've have been dining out, I 've not had a lot of experience with Sician foods and seafood based Italian cusine at that. zucchine flower with mozzerella cheeese fried with tempora dough appetizer (who thinks of things like that? flower? set the tone for the night. simple mixed olives in oil with manchego cheese/local fresh warmed bread. grilled octopus on top of greens for other appetizers. this could have been from my Greek restaurants, great char, expertly handled, tender but chewy enough, right seasoning. Scallops in a sea of pesto sauce along with seafood on top of ink black pasta were our mains. All were great dishes. Nothing remained on our plates after. What was really memerable were the other diners and their parties. The larger regualar group were dining/drinking up a storm with dishes flying out of the kitchen to meet their hearty appetites and jolly conversations heavily spiced with Italian dialect and interaction that only comes from a group that 's obviously close, regular and brotherly. The variety and amount the food coming to meet their table was extraordinary. Everything on the menu and beyond, at garganuant portions. Felt like we were in the scene from the 'Big Night ' with Stanley Tucci. The other family group were made up with families with kids and baby in white. Charming, and obviously enjoying the moment and company. Seeing the interactions with staff, both group were well known to the owners and regulars. It 's been a long time since we went out on a formal full dress up dinner, and La Brace was a great choice for a very memorable night. Bravissimo, Nicola and staff!!
